Adventures of the ‘village carpet’ of Szalatnak

The community artwork ‘The Szalatnak Village Carpet’, created in May 2024, has returned home after an international journey.

Thanks to textile artist Rosa Smits, who facilitated the weaving process, the piece was featured in two exhibitions in Amsterdam.

It was first presented in 2025 at the prestigious De Waag venue as part of the GLUE Design Route, and later at the café of Museum Het Schip as part of the artist’s solo exhibition, Collective Weavings (2025–2026).

The work was created with the participation of residents of Szalatnak and visitors to the village within the framework of the Erasmus+ project Weaving Voices as Threads of Community, organized by Sinum Theatre. It is currently on display at the village municipal office.
